The art of cord making

Basic set up

-The short end of your yarn goes through the hole at the bottom. It just gives an extra anchor to lock your yarn into place.

-take your working end of the yarn and wind it around the right fork. Back to front.

- wind it around the left fork. Back to front.

-bring back the yarn to the right fork. At the front.

This shows how you hold your hands.

Lock that bottom yarn with your thumb against the wood so it doesn't go anywhere.

And with your other two fingers you can controll the tension of the yarn.

Give the yarn a bit of slack.

With your other hand pull the bottom loop over your top yarn.

Pull it tight so the loop moves against the right fork.

- Turn the wooden fork over. Left fork goes behind the right fork.

So now you are facing the back side.

Your working yarn goes to the top of your new right fork.

-Get some slack in the bottom loop.

- Pull the bottom loop on the right fork over the top loop on the right fork.

Turn over your fork again. Left fork goes behing the right fork.

-Hold the small loop that is in the middle with your thumb and hold it slightly in place.

-Then pull the bottom loop on the right fork. This will pull tight the loop that is on the left and will form a knot in the middle. AND it will give you enough space for the bottom loop to be pulled over the top right fork again.

Turn over the fork.

Repeat.
